Frankenstein Unbound: An Introduction

Built by Central Michigan University students in the Fall of 2018, this exhibit celebrates the 200th birthday of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1818). The artifacts included here evidence the novel's ongoing work as a powerful cultural mediator. It begins in Ancient Greece with the myth of Prometheus and ends with contemporary adaptions of the novel, including young adult novels, video games, webseries, movies, and a heavy metal song by Metallica. The exhibit as a whole argues that Frankenstein is “alive” and will continue to be a key figure in debates about ethics and science, the arts, and education.
