Frankenstein: Nineteenth Century

Frankenstein is about the classical themes of suffering and the pursuit of knowledge in the midst of new science and the emergence of modern medical ethics. The Persevering Surgeon and Prometheus Bound encapsulate these themes and how they are used in Mary Shelley's novel. In Frankenstein, the illustrated scene where Victor confronts hs creature for the first time is a metaphor for the modern scientist colliding with these classical themes.
